Marta Tsalughelashvili
Born in 1943 in the village of Verkhveli, Marta married into the village of Aranisi, where she gave birth to two sons. Her boys were just four months and two years old when her husband died and she moved back to her village ov Verkhveli. When it came time to send the boys to school they moved to the neighboring village of Jijeti, where Marta lived the rest of her life. A proud Pshav woman and a zealous lover of poetry and song, she put words to melody as soon as a panduri¹ was placed in her hands. Hardworking, practical and energetic, Marta was a remarkable mother, grandmother, and hostess. She passed away several years after these recordings were made.
